A classic Japanese street food popular at festivals commonly known as octopus balls. Takoyaki is said to have been inspired by Hyogo Prefecture’s Akashiyaki, a dumpling made of egg-rich batter and octopus dipped into dashi.

Yakisoba

Soba noodles are usually made from buckwheat flour. But soba in Yakisoba is Chinese noodles made from wheat. This popular Japanese noodle stir-fried dish is typically flavored with Worcestershire sauce and other condiments.

Donburi

“Don” means bowl in Japanese. Simply put, Donburi, a quintessential Japanese comfort food, is a filling bowl of steamed rice topped with pork, beef, fish, and/or other ingredients. It took off during the Edo Period (1603-1867).

Udon

Udon noodles are thick Japanese noodles made from wheat flour. Though prepared and served in a variety of ways, udon is frequently served in a hot soup with a mild broth called kakejiru and usually topped with spring onions.
