“Don” means bowl in Japanese. Simply put, Donburi, a quintessential Japanese comfort food, is a filling bowl of steamed rice topped with pork, beef, fish, and/or other ingredients. It took off during the Edo Period (1603-1867).
Udon noodles are thick Japanese noodles made from wheat flour. Though prepared and served in a variety of ways, udon is frequently served in a hot soup with a mild broth called kakejiru and usually topped with spring onions.
